Prefectural Radiation Levels related to the Nuclear Power Plant Accident1 Monitoring of radiation levels in the air ○Fixed Point Measurements As of April 6th, we have stopped taking measurements with TCS-171B devices located in 4 different places. Instead, we have shifted to use constant monitoring posts located in 25 different spots in Gunma Prefecture. Please click here. Integrated value from March 15, 2011 to March 15, 2012. (Monitoring Post at Kamioki-machi, Maebashi)
※ On March 15, 2011, one year passed since increased radiation levels were recorded in the air in Maebashi. That increase over the year was approximately 0.12 milli Sv. ※ Future radiation levels are not thought to exceed the current measurement. Therefore, daily measurements after March 15, 2011 will no longer be taken. (Measurements previously recorded will remain posted.) ※ The integrated value is a sum of the total measurements of increased radiation levels since the power plant accident (increased levels in Gunma from 11am March 15). As a reference, by recommendation from the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) (2007), the maximum permissible dose of radiation per year for an individual member of the public is 1000 micro Sv. ●Contact Information(Japanese only) ・Regarding radiation level measurements and fallout: Environmental Protection Division TEL 027-226-2837 ・Regarding health effects: Health and Prevention Division TEL 027-226-2609 ・Regarding medical care: Medical Management Division TEL 027-226-2532 ・Regarding Food and Water Supply: Food Safety Division TEL 027-226-2425 ※Please refer to this link for information on the water supply.→ Regarding the safety of the water in Gunma Prefecture (Japanese) ・Regarding Medical Supplies: Pharmaceutical Management Division TEL 027-226-2667 ・Regarding Farm Products: Pharmaceutical Management Division TEL 027-226-3036 ・Regarding Livestock: Dairy and Livestock Division TEL 027-226-3102 ・National measurements are posted on the Ministry of Education, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) homepage (Japanese). ・For radiation measurements in neighboring prefectures, please refer to the each prefecture’s homepage. ○Measured Value from September 5, 2011 to April 6, 2012
・Please click here to see measurements results monitored by the Survey Meter or other equipments before September 2nd. 2. Monitoring of tap water
・A set of new standard values went into effect as of April 1st, 2012. Drinking water: radioactive cesium 10 Bq/kg (According to the Revision of “Handling of the Index Level on Radioactive Materials in Tap Water” by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) ・Minimum detection limit is between 0.1~0.3 Bq/kg. Levels below the minimums are listed as “Undetected” ・Measurement Agency: Gunma Prefectural Institute of Public Health and Environmental Sciences
Estimated Value byGunmaPrefecture(New standard values )
Because the measurement results of tap water provided by MEXT has not shown any trace of radioactive material, they have decided to improve measurement quality by lowering measurable limits. They will sample and inspect tap water once in three months from now on (Ex: January ~ March Sample tap water, publish the results in late April.) Please visit the website of MEXT for more information. Measured value list

Fallout levels ●Sampling site: Gunma Prefectural Institute of Public Health and Environmental Sciences (Kamioki-cho, Maebashi) According to changes to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science and Technology (MEXT) Monitoring Policy, fallout collection periods have changed from daily to monthly. Therefore measured values for the whole of 2011, including before the nuclear power plant accident, are published below. For past measured values, please visit the Environmental Radiation Database at: http://search.kankyo-hoshano.go.jp/top.jsp ○Measured Values from January 4, 2012 to March 1, 2012
・All detected nuclides are posted, regardless if they are artificial or naturally occurring. ・Measured values prior to the MEXT Monitoring Policy Change are listed below. Measured Value from March 18 to December 27
*Bq (Becquerel): This is a unit that indicates the radioactivity given off by radioactive particles and is usually estimated in terms amount of radioactivity per area or volume of object/place.
